Medieval art is the production of the High and Late Middle Ages, the 11th-15th centuries A.D. in Europe. Medieval art includes Romanesque and Gothic styles. Building off of the foundations of the art of the Roman Empire and incorporating in Christian iconography, medieval art is best known for its grand architecture, seen today in European churches and cathedrals, as well as its illuminated manuscripts, metalwork, and fine pieces in ivory and enamel.
