Iberian
Iberian art was produced on the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain) in antiquity. Along with France, the Iberian Peninsula is home to Paleolithic cave paintings, the first attested European art. Because of its key strategic position at the mouth of the Mediterranean, the Iberian peninsula was desirable both to traders and invaders, and colonized by many empires, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks and Romans; each of these civilizations left its mark on Iberian art. Despite, or perhaps because of, all of these influences, ancient Iberia developed a unique identity visible in its art.
