South Italian (Italiote) art was produced in Magna Graeca (the area of Southern Italy and Sicily colonized by the Greeks) beginning in the 5th and throughout the 4th century B.C. The art of South Italy includes Apulian, Campanian, Lucanian, Paestan, and Sicilian productions. The most notable South Italian art is the beautiful red-figure pottery, which, although strongly influenced by Greek prototypes, has a style all its own.
