This wonderful Roman Imperial necklace is composed of carnelian and gold beads on gold wire links. The 11 carnelian beads are faceted squares and rectangles accompanied by diamond shaped sheet gold beads which have been pressed in the center and strung along with two tubular beads on each side adding a decorative symmetry to each section. The beads date to the Roman period of 2nd -3rd century AD, and are fine examples of their type.
